Boston-based cMarket has a unique approach to stem the loss of IT jobs to
overseas competitors: offer American IT specialists the same rate quoted
by offshore IT outsourcing firms. In some cases, the cut in pay may be 50%
or higher, but apparently, there are more than enough out of work IT
specialists in the U.S. willing to accept the lower compensation rate. The
CEO of cMarket explains: 'We got flooded with resumes, about 90 in total,
many from highly qualified programmers having trouble finding work in the
down economy.' For U.S. firms employing such a strategy ('offering
Indian-style wages to American workers'), there may be the added
convenience of having people working onsite, rather than dealing with
overseas subcontractors."
